SI Held In ACB Trap, Locals Celebrate

Hyderabad: Anti-Corruption Bureau on Monday arrested Thimmajipet sub-inspector Chalamalla Hari Prasad Reddy from Nagarkurnool district for allegedly demanding bribe. Following his arrest, locals celebrated by bursting crackers and burning pots at Ambedkar Square and shouted slogans against the tainted police officer.

According to ACB, SI had initially demanded ₹30,000 on March 5 and later accepted the partial payment of ₹20,000. On March 12, he allegedly took a bribe from the complainant to release vehicles seized in the sand smuggling case, including a tractor and a JCB. The bureau said he performed his duties improperly and dishonestly, which constituted an offense under the Prevention of Corruption Act.

Hari Prasad Reddy appeared before 1st Additional Special Judge for SPE and ACB Cases at Nampally, Hyderabad. Victims alleged that he routinely extorted money from villagers in the name of CCTV cameras and tortured people in exchange for bribes.
