Air India to upgrade critical components of 26 Boeing 787-8 Dreamliners to improve reliability

Air India’s upgrade details
Air India’s Dreamliners’ 26 B787-8 aircraft and the seven 787-9 planes had made controls, including fuel switches after the deadly collapse of the London Gatwick Air India flight, which fell after Ahmedabad. The accident killed 260 people on June 12, 2025.
Within the scope of the 400 million dollar fleet reinforcement program announced in December 2022, the TATA group airline began to strengthen the first Legacy Dreamliner in California, Victorville, California in July 2025.
Sunday, a second aircraft is planned to be released in the same facility in October 2025 and both are expected to return to service in December 2025, ”he said.
In addition, the airline said that seven of the 26 B787-8s will spend heavy, planned maintenance (D-Checks) in Victorville and will provide long-term operational perfection of the fleet.
The strengthening of Legacy Dreamliners is expected to be completed in mid -2027. There will be three class configurations on the aircraft warned: work, premium economy and economic class seats.
“Air India has changed from the beginning of 2027 due to the supply chain delays of the timeline, which aims to be completed by October 2028,” he said.
Air India has about 190 narrow -bodied and wide -body aircraft.
The 27 Legacy A320 Neo aircraft, which started last September, is expected to be completed in September this year.
So far, 16 A320neo aircraft has been strengthened.
Air India decided to strengthen the 13 Legacy A321 CEO aircraft previously planned to be excluded from service.
