Akshay insures over 650 stunt professionals

With a significant movement for the safety and prosperity of the film industry employees, actor Akshay Gambar has expanded health and accident insurance to more than 650 stunt artists in India. The initiative, which was quietly financed by the actor for several years, drew attention to renewed after the tragic death of Senior Dubler SM Raju during a film shoot in Chennai.

Known to perform brave stunts, Akshay has long been vocal for lack of corporate support for stunt professionals. “They put their lives at risk every day to make action scenes look real. This is the least thing we can do for them,” he said.

According to industrial sources, the group insurance plan provides a scope of 5 lakh to 5.5 lakh for hospitalization and accidental costs. A senior stunt coordinator confirmed that several families have already benefited from the plan. “Some of our colleagues received medical treatment immediately through this insurance. In unfortunate loss cases, families received very much needed financial support. We are really grateful to Akshay Sir because we are standing on our side.”

The program is in coordination with the Stunt Artists Association, which controls the welfare of the stunt artists in the film industry. The Association emphasized that most stunt artists work freely without official contract, fixed income or medical benefits.

For many people in the community, the scope of insurance offers a rare sense of security. “Having this support allows our families not to encounter helplessness in the event of an event,” a stunt said.
