Alby and Esthers, Mudgee – SMH Good Food app review

Alby and Esthers is the kind of café you’d expect to see in a Mudgee tourism brochure: all historic stone walls covered in ivy, smiling, apron-clad staff and fudgy cupcakes and cupcakes. This name sounds like it belonged to someone’s grandparents – and it does. When Mudgee native Monica Campbell took over the cafe seven years ago, she decided to keep the name, which had come with a long and loyal following.

The all-day menu includes cafe staples like banana bread, granola and farmer’s breakfast platters, but it’s the jaffles that are famous here. Esther Jaffle pairs local smoked ham with eggs, cheese and house-made relish, and there’s always a rotating special, perhaps marinated mushrooms or prosciutto and sun-dried tomato pesto.
