Meitei Woman Among Two Injured In Suspected IED Explosion In Manipur’s Bishnupur

Guwahati: Two people, a woman and a man, belonging to the Meitei community were injured in two consecutive IED explosions near Saiton village in Meitei-dominated Bishnupur district on Monday morning.

Police said the first explosion occurred around 5:30 a.m. in an abandoned house where residents had gathered following the incident.

The second explosion, in which two people were injured, occurred approximately 200 meters away at around 08.45. Neighborhood residents had gathered in the area to see the explosion site.

Two people, identified as Sanatomba Singh and Indubala Devi, sustained splinter injuries on their right legs. It was stated that the injured people who were taken to the state hospital were not life-threatening.

Security sources suspected the involvement of miscreants from the Kuki-dominated Churachandpur district, with which Bishnupur shares the border.

However, the Kuki Zo Council, which was in talks with the government, condemned the attack in its statement. The council called on authorities and security forces to ensure security in the area.

Significantly, more than 100 displaced Meitei families along the Bishnupur-Churachandpur peripheral areas have witnessed fresh tensions following their recent return to the area. On December 16, unidentified people opened fire, targeting families in the Torbung area.
