Winter conditions are also expected to affect the UK, with snow covering the UK in February. WXCHARTS’ latest maps show the snow will begin at midnight on Thursday, February 12, and will spread from Scotland to the north of England.
Conditions look wet across the rest of the country, with patches of rain on the west and south coasts. In Wales and the Midlands of England the weather looks drier with only small patches of rain. The snow will be even more effective until midnight on Friday, February 13th. Snowfall of up to 10mm per hour will be expected from the Scottish Highlands to Stoke-on-Trent.
There will be no snow in Northern Ireland, but rainfall of up to 3mm per hour will occur.
The south coast of England will be mostly dry, with small patches of rain in Devon and Cornwall.
There will be some freezing rain in Scotland on Valentine’s Day, Saturday, February 14th. This rare weather phenomenon will be seen around Ballater.
Snow will again be limited to the north of England and large parts of Scotland.
A Met Office forecast says: “Cyclonic patterns are expected to dominate across the UK in mid-February.
“Frontal systems over the Atlantic are likely to approach the UK from time to time and tend to move slowly when they encounter a high-pressure blocking area in the northeast.
“This will cause showers or longer periods of rain across the UK, sometimes heavy.
“Rainfall amounts are likely to be highest in parts of the west, including areas vulnerable to flooding.
“As these rain bands spread northwards, snow is possible in northern England and Scotland, especially in higher elevations. Strong winds may develop in places, especially along the coasts.
“Temperatures are likely to be near normal overall, with cold conditions more likely in the north.”
