Illegal migrant sexually assaulted 2 women on their doorstep while delivering food | UK | News

The 29-year-old asylum seeker, who overstayed his stay in the UK, was detained before sentencing after sexually assaulting two women while delivering food and takeaways in Maidstone, Kent. Shafiullah Rasooli, originally from Afghanistan, was operating illegally using a friend’s registration details for food delivery services in and around County Town.

He sexually assaulted two women in their homes on June 26 and July 3. Kent Online reported. Rasooli denied the charges but was found guilty of three sexual assaults, including two on the same victim, following a trial at Sevenoaks Magistrates’ Court on October 1.

Prosecutor Terry Knox explained what happened in court.

He said Rasooli’s first attack occurred during a delivery to a woman’s home.

“He arrived at his address and realized he had been delivering food two weeks before,” Mr Knox said.

“She crossed the threshold because the attack took place in her own home. She had one foot in the door, one foot out and they were talking about her cat. He then asked her name and age, said she looked young for her age, then pointed to the sofa and told her: “She doesn’t have a boyfriend or friends.” [at home]’.

“She lies and tells him that yes, she was in the hallway but not at that point, and she was scared and agitated as he handed her the bags. [for delivery] and at this point he runs his hands down her body, down to her breasts and [upper] her body and was smiling while doing it.

The second attack was described as “similar in nature”.

The prosecutor said: “He was at the second woman’s door and asked her date of birth, saying he was surprised by her age.

“She then stepped across the threshold onto the porch and lifted her arm over her shoulder, grabbed her right breast and made a tapping motion.

“He froze but did not want to show panic and said that he was Muslim, did not drink alcohol, had a bottle of wine in the vehicle from a previous delivery and would he like a free bottle?

“She said no, but he repeated it and she said ‘go ahead’ to get him to leave.”

Rasooli then returned to the vehicle and froze again as he grabbed her shoulder and chest a second time.

Mr Knox added: “He then takes her phone and enters his own contact details and says he hopes to see her soon and two days later he calls her twice but she does not answer.”

Both victims were traumatized. One of them told the court: “This was my safe place but he knows where my home is and what my phone number is.” She had since installed CCTV and security lights and was unable to keep her job due to her anxiety and fear of him returning.

Mr Knox said Rasooli’s immigration status played a role in his arrest. “He was an immigration resident and had no actual residence to go to. So he was detained while awaiting trial.”

During his arrest, Rasooli claimed that hugging the side was a traditional farewell in Afghanistan, but prosecutors rejected this as an explanation for his behavior.

Defense lawyer Manjit Tesse told the court that the bench could sentence Rasooli immediately or wait for the probation report to be ready in December. Judges chose to refer the case to Canterbury Crown Court, where Rasooli will remain in custody before sentencing.

When he appeared at Margate Magistrates’ Court on October 21, the court heard his probation report had not yet been completed and would not be ready until at least December 3.

Having already spent more than eleven weeks in custody, the judges decided to send the case to Canterbury Crown Court for sentencing; but the date has not been determined yet.
