All fireworks banned in 12 UK areas from Friday with £5,000 fine and 6 months prison | UK | News

From this Friday, all firework displays will be banned at all times in at least 12 parts of the UK, with restrictions continuing until after Bonfire Night. Laws coming into force in 2022 allow Fireworks Control Zones (FCZs) to be implemented in certain areas. Anyone who sets off fireworks in the FCZ is guilty of an ‘offence’ punishable by a £5,000 fine and six months’ imprisonment.

The law applies in Scotland and both Edinburgh and Glasgow have announced areas that FCZs will cover this Bonfire Night. It will be illegal to set off fireworks in Edinburgh, even on private property, from Friday 31 October until 9 November.

City of Edinburgh Councils said: “To help keep our communities safe, from 31 October to 9 November 2025 there will be nine areas in the city where it will be illegal to set off fireworks, even on private property.

“These areas are known as Fireworks Control Zones and can help reduce noise, stress, littering and antisocial behavior caused by fireworks. These areas:

In Glasgow, Fireworks control zones have been approved for three communities – Pollokshields, Govanhill and Broomhouse – from Saturday 1 November.

Glasgow City Council said: “The introduction of the zones means it will be a criminal offense for a member of the public to set off fireworks anywhere in the zone from 1 November until 10 November 2025.

“This includes both public and private spaces, such as backyards, but sparklers are exempt.

“It will also be an offense to launch fireworks into one of the designated areas.

“Police Scotland will enforce the new restrictions. Anyone found breaching the fireworks control zone could face up to six months in prison and a fine of up to £5,000.”
