Chelsea appoint Xabi Alonso on four-year deal in latest managerial reset under Boehly era

Chelsea hired Xabi Alonso as manager on Sunday on a four-year deal from next season; The Spaniard returned to management after a short and difficult spell at Real Madrid and was tasked with bringing stability to a club that had become dysfunctional under American ownership.

Alonso will officially take over on July 1, replacing Liam Rosenior, who was sacked last month, and will become the fifth permanent manager appointed since Chelsea owners Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital bought the Premier League team in 2022.

Alonso spent eight months in charge of Madrid before leaving by mutual consent in January following poor results.
