Amazon In a statement on Thursday, the company leaves some employees in the cloud computing department.

“We have made a difficult job decision to eliminate some roles in certain teams in AWS,” Amazon spokesman Brad Glasser said, “Our organization, our priorities and what we need to focus on progress. He said. “We did not make these decisions slightly and we are determined to support employees during their transitions.”

The company refused to say which units in Amazon Web Services were affected or how many employees would be released due to business cuts.

According to a note displayed by CNBC by Michelle Vaz, the Head of the Department, AWS’s training and certificate unit was one of the groups to see deductions.

Reuters reported about the first layoffs.

In May, Amazon reported three -month revenue in AWS. Sales increased by 17% in the first quarter to 29.27 billion dollars and slowed down from 18.9% in the previous period.

Amazon said that the outages were not primarily caused by investments made in artificial intelligence, but the result of efforts to facilitate the labor force and focus on certain priorities. The company said it continued to hire in AWS.

Amazon CEO Andy Jassy has been in a cost -reducing mission for the last few years, which has led to the release of more than 27,000 employees since 2022. This year, business discounts continued on a smaller scale than previous years. Amazon’s stores, communications and devices and services departments have been hit with layoffs in recent months.

AWS cut hundreds of jobs in his physical stores last year.

Last month, Jassy estimated that Amazon’s corporate labor force could shrink even more as a result of the company that embraces the productive AI.

“We will need less people who do some of the works done today and other business types of more people.” He said. “It is difficult to know exactly where this emerged over time, but we hope that this will reduce our total institutional labor in the next few years.”
