American Journalist Says She Experienced ‘Extreme Brutality’ at Hands of Israeli Guards, Including Beatings and ‘Threats of Rape’

Journalist Noa Avishag Schnall On Monday, he accused Israeli guards of treating him and other prisoners with “extreme brutality,” including beatings and “threats of rape,” after they were taken from international waters by Israeli forces while aboard the Freedom of Conscience Flotilla.
One video notification Schnall, a Los Angeles-born photojournalist who reported from the fleet for Drop Site News, recalled the “extreme brutality” he allegedly experienced during his captivity in a photo posted on social media.
Schnall, who appears with a black eye and bruises in the video, said, “Our boat of conscience was attacked in international waters at around 05:00 on Wednesday morning.” He added:
The brutality started immediately. We went through various management levels and were subjected to the first of many strip searches. At least one woman reported being physically attacked by guards who laughed at her pain. Many squadron members reported watching their valuables being looted by guards during bag searches. We all had our hands violently pushed towards the ground and our arms held in stretched positions behind our backs, most of us were zip-tied and processed, divided into groups of men and women, then blindfolded. Many of the 150 total squadron members, including myself, were the targets of extreme brutality during their time in detention.
Schnall accused Israeli prison guards of beating him and other members of the squadron and blocking his airways.
“Any squadron member who disturbed the Israeli guards was subjected to twisted and tight handcuffs, and some were beaten,” he said. “I was hung in metal shackles by my wrists and ankles and beaten on my stomach, back, face, ear and skull by a group of male and female guards; one of them sat on my neck and face, blocking my airways.”
The journalist continued: “Many comrades, naturally, do not want their identities to be disclosed when describing this treatment. In the evening, men were tortured by guards with aggressive dogs and guns. Women were threatened with pepper gas. Our cell was awakened with threats of rape.”
