Two dead, three critically injured in landslide on Kedarnath trek route

On Wednesday, three people were critically injured after being shot by a landslide on the Kedarnath trekking route in Uttarakhand.

According to the Rudrapraagic Regional Administration, the landslide occurred near Jungle Chatti Ghat at 11.20, and the rocks caused the slope pilgrims and Palanquin operators to roll.

This is the second deadly event of the landslide on the forest chatti route of the temple after died in a similar accident on Sunday.

The dead were described as Nitin Kumar and Chandrashekhar who came to Uttarakhand to carry out the Palanquin service on the Kedarnath route to Uttarakhand in May.

The wounded, both Palanquin operators from Kashmir and Akash Chitriya, a pilgrim, were described as Nitin Manhas.

Nandan Singh, a district disaster management officer, said, “When the landslide hit them, people who contacted fell into a gateway. Police and SDRF personnel ran to the scene and launched a search and rescue operation,” he said.

Rescue teams to remove the bodies from the deep passage and take the wounded to hospitals took three hours, he added.

The management called on the pilgrims who took Kedarnath Yatra regularly to check their air information and follow the instructions while trekking. Authorities advised people to pay attention to the mountain roads and applied to the nearest aid center or the help line number in case of any emergency.

Char Dham in Uttarakhand consists of Hajj, Gangotri, Yamunotri, Badrinath and Kedarnath temples. According to the State Tourism Department, more than 30 Lakh Hacı Yatra took the Yatra in which 11 Lakh visited Kedarnath this year.
