Meghan and Harry’s latest publicist leaves amid Archewell redundancies

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s communications chief has resigned after less than a year on the job.

Meredith Maines, who started working for Sussex in March 2025, is believed to be the eleventh journalist to leave the role in five years after the couple stepped down from their duties as royals and moved to California in 2020.

A statement from Ms Maines said: “After a year of inspiring work with Prince Harry and Meghan, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, and Archewell, I will be pursuing a new opportunity in 2026. I have the utmost gratitude and respect for the couple, the team and the good they do in the world.”

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have also parted ways with Method Communications, a US-based PR firm, after announcing seven months ago that it was partnering with the organization which branded it as a company that “challenges the status quo”.

A spokesman for the Duke and Duchess of Sussex said: “Meredith Maines and Method Communications have completed their work with Archewell. The Duke and Duchess are grateful for their contribution and wish them well.”

Harry and Meghan are reportedly not looking to replace Ms Maines, as it is understood UK and Europe communications director Liam Maguire will take the lead.

The departure comes on the heels of last week’s announcement that Meghan and Harry’s Archewell Charity, formerly known as the Archewell Foundation, would make staff cuts as it closes.

A spokesperson told People: “The move towards a fiscal sponsor operating model means some staff redundancies are inevitable, particularly in junior executive roles.

“We will not discuss these personnel details further except to say that we are honored to work with incredibly talented and compassionate people who are dedicated to helping others.”

Ms Maines was seen speaking to senior aides working for the King outside a private members’ club in Mayfair in July; The royal families appeared to be taking steps to repair their relationship.

Ms. Maines, a Stanford graduate with a background in venture capitalism, previously worked for Hulu, GOOP and Google. It is not clear what he will do next.

Three communications staffers, including Charlie Gipson and Kyle Boulia, stopped working for the Sussexes this summer. Former global press secretary Ashley Hanson resigned a year ago to start her own consulting firm after two years managing the couple’s public relations activities.
