Mark Dreyfus speaks on Bondi terrorist attack; Josh Burns, Julian Leeser blast antisemitism as MPs return to Canberra ahead of National Day of Mourning
One Nation senator Malcolm Roberts blamed the “inhumane ideology” of Islam for the Bondi attack and alluded to access to abortion in his speech on a motion of condolence for the December 14 attack.
“It is difficult to make sense of something meaningless that is the result of inhumane ideology, the Islamic ideology that is the number one killer of Muslims worldwide, the rampant killer of Christians and Jews, and the driving force behind the indiscriminate killing of non-religious people around the world,” Roberts said.
“This is an opportunity to unite Australians touched by this tragedy and unite them in unity based on truth. Another prerequisite for action is to recognize that life is precious. From birth to death, life is precious,” he said.
“This is the first of the freedoms universally granted by God, without which we can have no freedom of life, no freedom to live, no freedom of speech, no freedom of thought, no creativity, no freedom of belief, no freedom of assembly or association, no freedom of initiative or action.”
Today, Roberts is One Nation’s most senior representative in the Senate, as party leader Pauline Hanson was suspended after wearing a burqa to parliament late last year.
The senator said Parliament had failed to hold the government accountable for its response to antisemitism.
