Another Brit dies in the Alps as avalanche hits group of off-piste skiers near French resort

Another Brit has died following an avalanche involving five off-piste skiers and their guides in the Alps.
The slide hit the Côte Fine lane at La Grave on Tuesday morning.
According to Gap Prosecutor Marion Lozac’Hmeur, two skiers were found with cardiorespiratory arrest and were later pronounced dead.
A man born in 1987 was Polish. The other, born in 1989, was a British citizen who was originally from Poland and lived in Switzerland.
The French guide was injured and taken to Grenoble University Hospital. Two skiers from Germany and Australia escaped unhurt.
An investigation was initiated and forwarded to the Briançon High Mountain Gendarmerie Detachment.
The exact circumstances remain unclear pending interviews with survivors.
Rescue teams reached the scene by land after the helicopters were grounded in bad weather conditions.
Six scouts were deployed, along with three mountain gendarmes, an emergency doctor, two local guides and a search dog.

The tragedy is the latest in a series of deadly incidents that have claimed lives in the Alps this season.
A few days ago, an avalanche in Val d’Isere dragged six skiers in the off-piste area of the slopes, causing the death of a French citizen and two Britons.
A resort official said emergency services responded quickly but were unable to prevent the deaths, noting that all of the victims had avalanche transceivers.
The deaths followed a rare, day-long red alert in the southeastern Savoie region on Thursday; this was a danger level given only twice since the system was introduced 25 years ago.
The warning prompted many resorts to close all or part of their pistes.
This is breaking news, more will follow.
