Anthony Joshua: Tributes as two team members die in fatal crash in Nigeria

Ghami was Joshua’s full-time sports and exercise rehabilitation coach and had worked with the 36-year-old for more than 10 years.
He helped the former heavyweight champion prepare for some of the biggest fights of his career, including his title fight against Wladimir Klitschko in 2017 and his win over Jake Paul this month.
Ghami also worked with former Pittsburgh Steelers running back Le’Veon Bell and Draymond Green of the Golden State Warriors.
Just hours before the accident, Joshua posted a video on Instagram playing table tennis with his long-time friend, personal trainer Ayodele.
Boxing expert Steve Bunce described Ghami and Ayodele as “Joshua’s two closest friends”.
“They were with him, if not from the beginning, at least very early on. Latz is AJ’s personal trainer, Sina is his strength and conditioning man. They are always there for him,” Bunce told BBC Radio 5 Live.
“He calls them his kids. They’re more than that. They’re friends. They may have tight jobs, they may be his strength and conditioning coach, his personal trainer, his dietician, his nutritionist, but they’re close, and he loves that close circle.”

Fellow boxer Chris Eubank Jr was also among those who paid tribute to Ghami and Ayodele, describing them as “really good guys”.

Joshua was in Nigeria after defeating American YouTuber-turned-boxer Paul in the sixth round of their heavyweight bout in Miami earlier this month.

Video from the scene shows Joshua being rescued from the backseat of a wrecked large car.
The Federal Road Safety Corps of Nigeria (FRSC) said a total of five adult males were involved in the crash.
They added that Joshua and another man (the driver of the vehicle) were rescued by the boxer’s security team.
The incident involved two vehicles, a black Lexus and a stationary red commercial truck, and occurred on the busy Lagos-Ibadan highway around 12:00 local time (11:00 GMT) on Monday.
The FRSC said based on preliminary findings the Lexus was “suspected of driving beyond the legally prescribed speed limit”.
It was stated that the car “lost control during an overtaking maneuver” and crashed into a truck standing on the side of the road.
