Photos from surveillance cameras show that the man shot by US Secret Service agents near the White House on Monday allegedly pulled a gun and fired at officers during a confrontation that broke out just after Vice President J.D. Vance’s motorcade passed through the area.
The suspect, identified as 45-year-old Michael Marx of Texas, was spotted Monday afternoon near 15th Street and Independence Avenue NW, about a half-mile from the White House, when officers noticed what appeared to be a concealed weapon.
Marx fled when agents approached, then pulled a gun from his waistband as he fled, according to a federal affidavit reviewed by Fox News Digital.
As officers chased him across a busy crosswalk filled with pedestrians, Marx turned and fired in the direction of a Secret Service officer, according to documents.

Court records show Marx is not licensed to carry a gun in Washington, D.C., and has a previous drug conviction in Florida, making it illegal for him to own a gun.
He is federally charged with assaulting federal officers with a dangerous weapon, use and discharge of a firearm during a crime of violence, and unlawful possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

The shooting began when surveillance personnel noticed what appeared to be a gun, Quinn said.
“From what I understand, they observed a fingerprint,” Quinn said. “These are trained surveillance detection personnel who call every day looking for just that.
