AP Fully Prepared To Handle Heavy Rains: Minister Narayana

Nellore: Municipal Administration Minister Ponguru Narayana said the state government machinery is fully prepared to deal with any situation arising from the ongoing heavy rains.
Speaking to the media here on Wednesday, he said Atmakur recorded the highest rainfall of 146.5mm in the region.
The Minister said that precautionary measures have been taken in all rain-affected areas. “Thanks to the desilting works carried out by the Nellore Municipal Corporation, there was no water stagnation in any part of the city,” he said.
He said waste removal works worth Rs 50 crore have been completed in 123 municipalities by improving drainage systems. “We have also developed 47 parks in Nellore city. CM has approved 165 crore for underground drainage works,” he said.
Narayana said the government will fulfill every promise made by the three-party alliance before the elections. The CM would soon lay the foundation stone of a new airport in Dagadarthi.
He also announced plans to establish an industrial unit near the Kovur sugar factory that will employ thousands of people. “We will develop Nellore as a model city,” he said.
Narayana said that tap water connection will be provided to every house soon. “Be patient for a few more days. The previous government could not even provide basic amenities to the people. We would sort things out.”
He said the government has introduced the LRS (Laboration Regularization Scheme) and BRS (Building Regularization Scheme) and appealed to citizens to take advantage of these opportunities.
Commenting on illegal constructions, Narayana said, “Buildings constructed beyond the approved limit in Nellore have been demolished. Anyone violating construction rules will face strict sanctions.”
He said many people were encroaching on irrigation canals. These violations will be cleared soon.
The minister criticized some people for politicizing the inspection visit of the development authorities to Kavali and warned that such actions would not be tolerated.
