AP Ministers, Collectors Review Rain Situation

Ongole/Nellore: One person died due to heavy rains and overflowing streams in Kavali division of SPSR’s Nellore district on Thursday.

Dampoori Mallikarjuna, 45, of Chamdala village in Jaladanki mandal, got caught in the Nerella stream while trying to cross the flooded stream on his motorcycle while on his way to Kavali. The strong current dragged away both the driver and his bike.

Learning about the accident, Jaladanki collector Prameela and assistant inspector Latifunissa rushed to the scene and started investigating. Latifunissa coordinated with the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and found the body after an extensive search.

Meanwhile, due to continuing rains in SPSR Nellore and Prakasam districts, authorities have been put on high alert to prevent loss of life and property.

In Prakasam district, collector P. Rajababu and joint collector R. Gopal Krishna inspected the damaged Chadalawada Ramanna Cheruvu embankment in Naguluppalapadu mandal.

The Collector has instructed the national highways and irrigation authorities to divert excess water through side channels to prevent flooding on the Ongole-Chirala highway and ensure proper drainage towards the Gundlakamma river. Repair work began immediately using JCBs.

Minister of Social Welfare Dr. Dola Sree Bala Veeranjaneya Swamy conducted an inspection of the Ongole collection and directed officials to be vigilant, maintain sanitation and prevent people from entering overflowing streams. He ordered checks on clean drinking water, drainage of stagnant rainwater and preparations for rehabilitation centres.

Urban development minister Dr. In a teleconference from Nellore, Ponguru Narayana instructed the municipal commissioners to be available 24×7, prevent waterlogging and ensure sanitation and safety of drinking water. He ordered active hotlines and coordination with police and health departments.

Officials confirmed that regional administrations are fully prepared and control rooms and emergency teams are working 24 hours a day.
