Sir Alex Ferguson among mourners as tributes paid to Mark Hughes’ son Alex, 38, at his funeral following his tragic death
Hundreds of people attended the funeral of Mark Hughes’ son Alex in Prestbury following his sudden death last month.
Among those in attendance were former Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson, as well as Mike Phelan, Martin Edwards, Bryan Robson and Ryan Giggs.
Hughes carried his son’s coffin to St Peter’s Church with other members of the family, including Alex’s brother Curtis and father-in-law David Pollock.
Alex’s widow Jess entered the church behind the coffin with her children Sebastian and Leonardo.
Manchester Evening News In an emotional tribute, Pollock reportedly described how both boys began pointing to the sky after scoring in honor of their father.
Mark gave a private tribute at the ceremony, but a joint tribute from the Manchester United great and his wife Jill was read by Pollock at the end of his eulogy.

Mark and Jill said, ‘Alex, thank you for giving us the privilege of being your mom and dad.’
‘Thank you for every smile, every laugh, every hug, every precious moment.
‘You were and always will be our perfect son. We love you beyond words. We always were and always will be. My mom and dad.”
Alongside representatives of Hughes’ former club Man United, Grimsby Town manager David Artell led a delegation from the League Two club.
Alex was working as a player recruiter at Grimsby at the time of his shock death on June 19.
The League Managers Association (LMA) announced Alex’s death last month and issued a statement on behalf of former Manchester City and Wales boss Hughes.
“Jill and I are completely heartbroken by the sudden and unexpected loss of our beloved son, Alex,” the statement said. The statement was included.
‘Alex was a wonderful son, brother to Curtis and Xenna, and devoted husband and father to Jessica and their two beautiful children, Sebastian and Leonardo.

‘Alex was Recruitment Lead at Grimsby Town FC and had many good friends and colleagues. He will be greatly missed by all of us.
‘We ask for privacy at this sad time as we come to terms with the loss of our family. Hughes family’.
After a short playing career in Wales, Alex took on many roles off the field.
As well as being a licensed manager, he worked alongside his father as an analyst at Blackburn Rovers, Manchester City and Fulham before becoming director of football at AFC Fylde in 2024.
Dad Mark had a respectable football career; He made 345 appearances for Barcelona, Bayern Munich and Chelsea, as well as Manchester United.
Hughes then moved into management and managed Wales for five years before spells at Manchester City, Blackburn Rovers and Stoke City.
Most recently, Hughes left Carlisle last month after losing in the National League play-off semi-final.
