An APSRTC bus burst into flames after coming into contact with low-hanging high voltage cables at Veerannagattupalle village in Kadapa district on Sunday. The incident turned out to be alarming, considering that half a dozen such incidents have been witnessed in Andhra Pradesh in the last two weeks.

The APSRTC rural service (Palle Velugu) bus was traveling from Kadiri in Sri Sathya Sai district towards Vempalle in Kadapa district when the accident occurred at Veerannagattupalle.

Seeing smoke rising from the ceiling of the bus, 22 passengers became alarmed, stopped the bus and quickly got out. As the passengers watched helplessly, the bus burst into flames and was almost completely burned before firefighters arrived.

Travelers stranded in a remote location had to seek alternative means of transportation to reach their destination.

Meanwhile, Transport Minister Mandipalli Ramprasad Reddy, who is investigating the details of the accident, praised the driver for his quick response in stopping the bus and saving the lives of the passengers.
