Archaeologists unveil 3,500-year-old city in Peru

Archaeologists announced the discovery of an ancient city in Northern Barranca, Peru.

It is believed that the 3,500 -year -old city, Peñico, serves as a key trade center that associates early Pacific coastal communities with those living in the Andes Mountains and the Amazon Basin.

The site, which is located 200 km north of Lima, is located on approximately 600 meters (1,970 feet) on the sea level and is thought to be established between 1,800 and 1,500 BC – at the same time early civilizations are developing in Middle East and Asia.

Researchers say that discovery sheds light on what happened to Caral, the oldest civilization in America.

The drone images published by researchers show a circular structure surrounded by the remains of stone and mud buildings on a slope terrace in the center of the city.

Eight years of research on the site, including ceremonial temples and housing complexes, including 18 structures revealed.

In the buildings in the field, researchers discovered ceremonial objects, clay sculptures of human and animal figures, and necklaces made of beads and sea shells.

Peñico, known as the oldest known civilization in the United States, is close to the places where Caal was founded in Peru Supe Valley 5,000 years ago at around 3,000 BC.

Caral offers 32 monuments including large pyramid structures, sophisticated irrigation agriculture and urban settlements. It is believed that it has developed alone to other comparative early civilizations in India, Egypt, Sumerian and China.

In the 1990s, the archaeologist Dr. Ruth Shady said that the discovery was important to understand what happened from Caral civilization after being destroyed by climate change.

“It was in a strategic position for trade for change with the coast, highlands and forests,” the Peñico community said.

Archaeologist Marco Machacuay, a researcher from the Ministry of Culture at a press conference on Thursday, said that the importance of Peñico lies as a continuation of Caral Society.

Peru is home to America’s most important archaeological discoveries, including Machu Picchu in Andes, including the mysterious Nazca lines engraved in the desert along the coastal coast and the central coast.
