Armed police swarm Leeds General Infirmary as man injured in ‘shooting’ | UK | News

Armed police rushed to Leeds General Infirmary on Tuesday afternoon after a man arrived at hospital with injuries “consistent with a gunshot blast”. Officers were called shortly after 5.30pm when hospital staff alerted police that a man in his late twenties had attended Accident and Emergency with a suspected gunshot wound.
The incident triggered a major emergency response; Armed officers, several police vehicles and forensic teams were seen outside the hospital as a cordon was put in place around the entrance. The police emphasized that the attack did not take place in the hospital or within its borders.
In a statement, a West Yorkshire Police spokesman said: “We have been made aware of speculation on social media regarding police activity outside Leeds General Infirmary this evening.
“Officers were called by hospital staff shortly after 5.30pm after a man in his late twenties presented to hospital with injuries consistent with a gunshot blast.
“It was learned that the injuries were not life-threatening.
“The incident did not occur at the hospital or its location, investigations are ongoing to determine the circumstances of the incident and how the man was injured.
“Two people were arrested and a police cordon was established.
“Further updates regarding this incident will be provided on our website or through our social media channels.”

Crime scene officers were seen working alongside a silver Volvo car while armed police guarded the entrance.
Police are continuing to investigate the incident to determine the circumstances surrounding it and how the man was injured.
