Brisbane was declared the best sports city in Australia and the best in the world. 2025 sports cities ranking.
The index, published by Global Consultancy Burson, measured 100 sports cities around the world to measure targets on the rise and left behind.

Brisbane is 20 out of 100 and left Sydney, Melbourne and Gold Coast behind Australia’s most popular target for sports.
In 2023, after the index ranked 15th, the city exceeded its southern colleagues for the second time.

Paris threw the world’s best sports city for the third year in a row, then Los Angeles, New York, London, Madrid, Barcelona, Munich, Miami, Milan and Manchester completed the top 10.
The report stressed how hosting Olympic and Paralympic games affected a city’s place in the sports world, and Brisbane’s 2032 games would climb higher as they approached.
Brisbane Economic Development Agency Operations Officer Juliet Alabaster said Brisbane’s adopting calendar activities throughout the year, including Nrl Magic Rough and the last British and Irish Lions Rugby tour.
“In the last 10 years, Brisbane’s sports and cultural sectors have experienced a remarkable growth of 76 percent – and the acceleration is still being built,” he said.
