Arrest after allegedly armed man flees police pursuit

A man who allegedly left an armed unit blocking the block before leading police on a vehicle pursuit has been arrested at Sydney’s Westfield shopping centre.

Police responded to reports of an armed man leaving a block of Reliance Crescent in Willmot, in Sydney’s west, about 1pm on Monday.

A pursuit was launched near Hebersham at around 1.35pm.

The chase was stopped shortly after due to safety concerns, but the police helicopter continued to monitor the car from the air and tracked it to the Mount Druitt Westfield car park at around 2pm.

A 21-year-old man was arrested at the shopping center and taken to Mount Druitt police station.

A NSW Police spokesperson said in a statement that investigations into the incident are continuing.

Footage from the scene shows police standing on a knife and surrounding a man on the ground.

The incident occurred in western Sydney’s Westfield, where police were present. shot a man armed with a machete while responding to reports of a fight in July.
