Arrest after gun attack on Russian general in Moscow

Russia’s Federal Security Service said the man suspected of shooting senior Russian military intelligence officer Vladimir Alekseyev in Moscow was detained in Dubai and handed over to Russia.

Lieutenant General Vladimir Alekseyev, deputy chief of Russia’s military intelligence arm, the GRU, was shot several times in a Moscow apartment block on Friday, investigators said.

Russian media said he underwent surgery after the shooting.

The FSB said that a Russian citizen named Lyubomir Korba was detained in Dubai on suspicion of carrying out the attack.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov blamed Ukraine for the assassination attempt, which he said was designed to sabotage peace talks.

Ukraine said the incident had nothing to do with the incident.

Alexeyev’s boss, GRU chief Admiral Igor Kostyukov, is leading the Russian delegation in talks with Ukraine in Abu Dhabi on security aspects of a possible peace deal.
