Arsenal 1-2 Bournemouth: Could Gunners really blow Premier League title?

Whatever the result, this was a poor performance from Arsenal, who looked tired compared to a new Bournemouth team that had not played for three weeks.

This was the 53rd match of the season for Arsenal, who are trying to win trophies in many competitions.

But defeats in the Carabao Cup final, FA Cup quarter-final and now against the Cherries mean they have lost three of their last four games in all competitions.

While Arsenal was missing Bukayo Saka, captain Martin Odegaard and Jurrien Timber due to injury, left-back Myles Lewis-Skelly was making his second start of the season, with Riccardo Calafiori also unable to play.

“I thought the result in Lisbon in midweek would go a long way to helping them gain some momentum and confidence after two cup defeats,” Shearer added.

“But I didn’t see anything today that would give me confidence that they would go and win the league.”

There was a tense atmosphere in the stadium, loose passes were met with groans from the home fans and it was clear that Arsenal were not at their best.

Arteta had asked fans to arrive early to create an intimidating atmosphere, but the Gunners boss does not think the expectation is in his favour.

“I don’t think there is pressure,” Arteta told BBC Match of the Day. “We have been dealing with a lot of pressure since the beginning of the season.

“There were actions that shocked the system, far from the level we showed today.

“We ask a lot of our crowd and we failed to meet those standards today and we have to apologize, take that and move on.”
