Astronauts on NASA’s Artemis 2 mission around the moon delivered an emotional six-word message before losing communication with Earth.
On April 1, NASA launched a 10-day crewed mission to send humans into space farther than ever before. This marks the first human flight to the moon since 1972.
Four astronauts aboard the Orion spacecraft successfully completed their journey around the Moon in the early hours of Tuesday, April 7, during which they were temporarily cut off from Earth. However, the crew left a heartfelt message before communication was lost.
Victor Glover said: “As we prepare to cease radio communications… With all of you on Earth and around the World – we love you to the moon and back.”
Astronauts Reid Wiseman, Victor Glover and Christina Koch of the United States and Jeremy Hansen of Canada lost communication with Mission Control for approximately 40 minutes; It was an expected communications blackout as it passed behind the dark side of the moon.
The crew reported witnessing features of the mysterious far side of the moon as well as a total solar eclipse from their vantage point.
NASA confirmed that the spacecraft reached its greatest distance from Earth during the mission; “suspected” approximately 252,756 miles; He dared to travel further from our planet than any other human in history, surpassing the record set by Apollo 13 in 1970.
The crew then reconnected with Mission Control and began the journey back to Earth.
