Assembly election dates 2026 LIVE: ECI begins press conference to announce poll schedule for four States and one UT

INDIA bloc MPs submitted a memorandum to both Houses of Parliament on Friday, March 13, 2026, demanding the removal of Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar.

This is the first time such a notification has been officially presented to the Parliament. In the past, the Opposition had considered similar moves against at least two former CECs, but these efforts never progressed.

According to the rules, signatures of at least 50 MPs are required if the notice is moved to the Rajya Sabha, and 100 MPs are required if it is moved to the Lok Sabha. The Opposition’s manifesto exceeds these requirements with 130 signatures in the Lok Sabha and 63 signatures in the Rajya Sabha.
