“The View” co-host Sunny Hostin said Friday that she is disappointed in former First Lady Jill Biden and doubts she has seen signs that her husband, former President Joe Biden, has rejected her offer.
“I’m a little disappointed that she’s living with Joe Biden. She must have seen some of his decline. She must have seen that,” Hostin said. “Although he said, ‘I’ve never seen her like that, and I haven’t seen her like that since.’ I can’t imagine Joe — they’ve been together so long — that Joe Biden, leading this debate, hasn’t seen her.”
Fellow co-host Joy Behar asked if it was Jill’s responsibility to say something to her husband about running for a second term.
“I think she should have said to him privately: ‘Joe, do you really think you should run again?’ Because he promised us he would be president one term,” Hostin replied.

Asked by CBS News’ Rita Braver in an interview that will air in full on Sunday if she sees signs of Joe’s decline, Jill Biden said he doesn’t.
“No,” Biden responded. “He was the same, the same essence of Joe Biden, but yeah, he was slowing down. He was aging… It’s a very intense job. I think it ages you fast.”
In the same interview, she said she was worried her husband would suffer a stroke during the infamous debate in 2024 and ultimately withdraw from the race.
“I was scared because I had never seen Joe like that before or since. Never,” she told CBS. “I don’t know what happened. As I was watching, I thought, ‘Oh my God, he’s having a stroke.’ And it scared the hell out of me.”

Co-host Sara Haines agreed with Hostin’s criticism during Friday’s show.
“When I heard what you said there, I can’t help but think my first reaction would have been: ‘You’ve done your time. You’ve reached the end of 50 years of service. You were president for four years. Now come on, you’ve served long enough,'” Haines said.
Jill argued that if she thought Joe might have had a stroke, her immediate reaction should have been, “Okay, that’s enough.”
Haines also argued that the Democratic Party should have handled Biden’s downfall differently, saying: “It was a lack of secrecy and trust, and now we’re being validated as saying, ‘No, we weren’t being honest.'”
Following the presidential debate in June 2024, several of “The View” hosts admitted that it might be time for then-President Biden to exit the race. “I think President Biden should resign and be replaced by someone else,” Haines said.
“I’ve had concerns about Biden’s age for several years. The performance was much worse than I expected,” Griffin said.
“Maybe he needs to go,” Hostin admitted.
After Biden abandoned his re-election bid a few weeks later, host Whoopi Goldberg lashed out at Democrats who were pressuring her to drop out of the race. “The messages we’re sending to people over a certain age are terrible. We basically said, ‘Hey, you know what? If you’re over a certain age, we really think you don’t have what it takes to do the job you do.'”

The Bidens appeared on “The View” in May 2025; Meanwhile, Jill stepped in to help defend him against the many stories about his failing health.
“They’re wrong,” the former president said of the stories about his health. “There’s nothing to support that, number one. Secondly, you know, think about what we came away with. We came away with a situation where we had a rebellion, not since the Civil War, when I started. We were in a situation where – you know, the epidemic because of the incompetence of the last unit – we ended up with over a million people dying, a million people dying.”
Biden continued: “We are also in a situation where we are unable to deal with a lot of fundamental issues, and for the sake of time, I won’t get into those.” “So we got to work and got this done, and, you know, one of those things – well, I –”

Jill then jumped in to address co-host Alyssa Farah Griffin: “One of the things I’m thinking about is that the people who wrote these books aren’t with us in the White House.”
“And they didn’t see how hard Joe was working every day. I mean, he’d get up, have a full day, and then at night – I’d be lying in bed, reading my book, and he was still on the phone reading his briefings. He was working with the staff. So he was working non-stop,” she added.
