Reality TV star and wealthy businesswoman Kim Kardashian issued a panicked eight-word defense after losing her cool at the 2025 Academy Museum Gala on Oct. 18, a lip reader has revealed.
The 44-year-old mother of four was almost unrecognizable when she arrived at the event in Los Angeles, California, wearing a Maison Margiela couture nude outfit that included a mask that concealed her entire face.
Despite appearing in the stunning faceless outfit that left her fans uneasy, Kardashian admitted she still had some glamorous makeup underneath.
Still, regardless of whether or not she had a face of make-up under the strangely nude covering, Kardashian had a hard time seeing where she was going and nearly fell over onto her covered face.
Lip reader Nicola Hickling reviewed a clip posted on People’s Instagram account of Kardashian being guided to the event, showing Kardashian waving her arms around trying not to fall as an escort lifts her nude dress.
“Using advanced video development software, I analyzed the footage frame by frame and isolated the speech patterns underneath Kim Kardashian’s mask, allowing me to confidently determine what she was saying to her assistant,” Hickling told the Mirror.
Hickling continued: “Kim looks visibly uneasy, waving her hands in disbelief and shaking her head before insisting, ‘Don’t let go, I can’t see anything.’
“For a moment he looks panicked and unbalanced. His assistant responds in a calm and supportive manner: ‘Don’t worry, I’ve got you. I’ll lead you, just take my hand.'”
The lip reader continued: “Kim regains her composure and they begin to walk away together feeling more confident.” However, Kardashian made her fans uneasy about this strange ensemble.
She was accessorized with a multi-layered crystal-studded choker necklace that showcased emerald stones and cross pendants, along with a matching ring.
Before the premiere, he posted a video mocking his masked look. In the footage, she asks makeup artist Mario Dedivanoic, “Mario, do I look good? Is it makeup?” he asked.
She playfully responded, “Your makeup looks great, yeah.” Kardashian then said, “Is this good? Friends who work so hard. But I feel like I do this to Mario all the time.”
While some observers found the look “quirky” and one fan branded Kim “next level gorgeous”, others were decidedly unimpressed with her fashion choice.
Many even observed that the community recalled the completely secret outfit she wore with ex-husband Kanye West at the 2021 Met Gala.
At the 2021 Met Gala, Kardashian wore a black mask that covered her entire face and head as part of a Balenciaga creation. Responding to the star’s appearance on Saturday night, one fan posted to X: “You can still see the Kanye in him.”
“Designed by Kanye?” one asked, while another replied: “He misses Kanye, I see… Because this is ridiculous.” Another said: “Looks ridiculous. Must be something from crazy Kanye.” he added. A different user asked: “How is he breathing?” he tweeted.

Her appearance at the party comes just a day after the Skims founder and her family joined Kylie Jenner in celebrating the 10th anniversary of her cosmetics empire, Kylie Cosmetics, at a special pop-up celebration. Jenner and Kardashian stunned viewers with coordinated, body-hugging latex outfits.
