Chinese construction firm among two short-listed for construction of Hobart stadium

A Chinese government-owned construction company has been chosen as one of two firms shortlisted for the $1.13 billion Macquarie Point stadium construction.

Macquarie Point Urban Renewal Minister Eric Abetz announced on Sunday that two bidders have been selected to move forward with the stadium’s procurement process.

“This is a significant step forward for the Macquarie Point Multi-Purpose Stadium,” he said.

“We have seen strong interest from major contractors who can deliver a project of this scale and complexity.

“We are delivering to Tasmania, transforming a barren land into a year-round events and events precinct that will benefit all Tasmanians.”

According to the Tasmanian government, the next stage will involve the two companies making detailed presentations on the delivery approach, commercial environments, program and local industry involvement.

The contract for the construction of the stadium is expected to be announced before the end of the year.
