Rep Anna Paulina Luna files motion to expel Swalwell amid assault accusations

Rep. Anna Paulina Luna, R-Fla., announced Saturday that she will file a petition to expel Rep. Eric Swalwell, D-Calif., from Congress after former staffers accused the congressman of sexual assault and abuse of office.

“I am making a motion to expel Eric Swalwell from Congress,” he wrote in a tweet Saturday morning.

The move comes after at least four women among Swalwell’s former employees accused him of sexual impropriety. A staff member accused him of sexual assault multiple times.

A former employee told the San Francisco Chronicle that when she was 17 and Swalwell was 38, she began messaging him on the social media platform Snapchat, a messaging platform where messages between users disappear.

The woman, who the Chronicle did not name, said Swalwell began sending her inappropriate photos and requesting photos of her naked body.

She also claimed she woke up alone in Swalwell’s hotel room in 2024 with “vaginal bleeding” after a night she didn’t remember, according to the Chronicle.

Swalwell, who is married with children, denied the sexual assault allegations as “wrong and outrageous.” Her attorney also sent the woman a cease and desist letter, the Chronicle reported.

Fox News Digital reached out to Swalwell and Luna’s offices but did not immediately receive a response.

Former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif. While other party members heeded calls to leave, few went so far as to call for Swalwell to vacate his congressional seat; Luna emphasized this during her morning appearance on “Saturday in America with Kayleigh McEnany” on Saturday.

“It is unacceptable for her to index the gubernatorial campaign in California but still sit in the House of Representatives,” he told McEnany.

“As we continue to learn more, these allegations from multiple sources are deeply disturbing and must be taken seriously,” California Governor Gavin Newsom said in a statement Saturday.

Meanwhile, the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office in New York City said it was investigating the allegations against Swalwell.

“We urge survivors and anyone with information about these allegations to contact our Special Victims Division at 212-335-9373,” an office spokesperson said. “Our specially trained prosecutors, investigators, and counselors are well-equipped to assist you in a trauma-informed and victim-centered manner.”
