Manhunt launched as police investigate attempted murder

Police have named a man wanted in connection with an attempted murder investigation in Wales.

Detectives are appealing for help to locate 57-year-old James McKenna, who has been missing since an alleged attack in Carmarthen Park on Thursday afternoon.

Dyfed-Powys Police said a woman was taken to hospital and is in a stable condition following the incident.

Detective Superintendent Ross Evans said: “We understand this incident is a cause for concern for the people of Carmarthen. I want to reassure you that we are doing everything possible to locate James and bring the case to a rapid conclusion.”

“James, if you see this message, I recommend that you introduce yourself to us at the first opportunity so that this matter can be resolved quickly.”

Mr McKenna, a native of the Carmarthen area, is also known to have links to Ireland and officers made inquiries with ports and transport centres.

Mr Evans said: “I would like to reiterate that this is an isolated incident and any additional patrols are for reassurance purposes only. Additional police resources will be seen in the town as investigations progress.”

“These types of incidents are highly unusual for the region and I want to be clear that we will not tolerate any form of violence in our society.”

Mr McKenna is described as a white British male, 5ft 11ins tall, bald, with a white beard.

“We would like to thank the local Carmarthen community for your patience and understanding as we continue to conduct our investigations.”

Anyone with information about or sighting Mr McKenna is asked not to approach him but to call 101 or report online.
