Australia vs England fifth Test day 2 cricket scores, results, start time, wickets, teams, how to watch, Sydney Test, SCG
Nathan Lyon will not bowl at the SCG today following surgery on a torn hamstring, but Australia are already considering how to avoid fielding injuries that have ruled him out of large parts of the last two Ashes series.
Lyon has been a good outfielder over the years but assistant coach Dan Vettori admitted Australia may need to protect him in the field next summer to reduce the risk of non-bowling-related injuries.
“As a 38-year-old player who has played an outstanding amount of cricket in Australia, bowled a lot of balls, I think we want to protect him as much as possible,” Vettori said.
“But he likes to be in the game, he likes to be on the scene, that’s been his place for a long time. I think those conversations will continue, but we want him to be playing cricket for a long time, so if that’s part of that then it’s an important conversation.”
