Australian captain smashes India in final ODI before Test

“It was a pleasure to be there with him,” Mooney told Channel 7 about their partnership.

“I’ve seen that a few times in his career… no matter where the ball is thrown, he seems to find a way to get it to the ropes.

“I hope he looks back and is really proud of his career. To be able to do that in his last ODI is unreal.”

No.9 Nicola Carey hit an unbeaten 34 off 15 balls to help Mooney wrap up the innings and push Australia past 400. Mooney needed just 84 balls to make his century and scored 10 fours and a six.

India did not help their cause with some slack bowling and below-par fielding, although Kashvee Gautam took a superb catch off the boundary rope late in the innings to dismiss Tahlia McGrath for two. Rana and Sree Charani took two wickets each.

Left-arm fast bowler Lucy Hamilton was selected to make her Australia debut after India won the toss.

The Queenslander and Georgia Wareham stood by the sick Megan Schutt and Darcie Brown.

The tourists made three changes: Kranti Gaud, Amanjot Kaur and Vaishnavi Sharma were replaced by Renuka Thakur, Harleen Deol and Rana.

Australia went into Sunday’s match with a six-to-four lead in the multi-format series. After India lost the T20s two games to one, the home team won the two ODIs.

Also on Sunday, Australia announced the return home of all-rounder Kim Garth, who continues her rehabilitation from a quad injury.

Garth will not resume bowling yet but will rejoin the team in Western Australia ahead of the Test match starting on March 6.
