Australian star sprinter stuns with a record-equalling time in the 100 metres
Sprint sensation Gout Gout completed the equal fastest legal 100m run by an Australian on home soil by 10 seconds (+0.9) in his first race of 2026 on Saturday.
The young superstar is edging closer to legally breaking the magic 10-second mark after a stunning performance at the Dane Bird-Smith Shield Meet at the Queensland Sport and Athletics Centre.
Gout’s finish is similar to that of Lachlan Kennedy, who achieved the feat in Perth in April 2025.
Kennedy and Patrick Johnson also legally ran the 100 meters in 9.98 and 9.93 seconds in Nairobi (Kenya) and Mito (Japan) in 2025 and 2003, respectively.
Gout also broke the Australian under-20 record in Brisbane on Saturday, eclipsing Jake Doran’s mark of 10.15 set in 2018.
The man who broke the Under-20 Gut record, fellow sprinter Jake Doran, was quick to congratulate the young Queenslander on Athletics Australia’s Instagram account.
“It was only a matter of time! Proud to have someone of Gout’s caliber eclipse my goal,” Doran wrote.
Doran is on his way back after tearing his hamstring last year, so he will be able to compete with Gout in the future as well.
