Bafta has become the latest major organization to announce its shortlists for this year’s film awards season. Announcement of Oscar nominees last week.
Hamnet, Sinners, and One Battle After Another are expected to lead the field, but KPop Demon Hunters will miss out due to eligibility rules.
Many of the films in contention are the same as the Oscars, but there will be more UK representation at the Baftas, which has categories geared towards rewarding British talent.
Bafta is also able to recognize slightly more films and actors than the Oscars, as it has six slots in many categories rather than five.
Alan Cumming will host the Bafta Film Awards in London on Sunday, February 22.

british package
Getty ImagesAlthough the big nominations overlap with the Oscars, there will be much more British representation at the Baftas.
British and Irish actors generally perform better on their home soil; there are also categories devoted to best film overall, as well as outstanding first film in Britain and outstanding British films.
Likely candidates include: I swear, The uplifting story of a young man with Tourette’s growing up in 1980s Scotland is a humorous and heartwarming tale. The Ballad of Wallis Island, An eccentric lottery winner tries to reunite his favorite musical duo.
Other British films that have been the subject of controversy include: Back seat, An excellent movie about two men in a BDSM relationship and a great big screen adaptation. H is for Hawk, The story of a woman who buys and trains a goshawk while grieving the death of her father.
Other films longlisted for outstanding British film: Chorus, 28 Years Later, Ballad of a Little Actor, Die My Love, Hamnet, Steve, Farewell June, War, Mr. Burton, Roses And Bridget Jones: I’m Angry at the Boy.
Many of the British and Irish stars featured in these films also received individual acting nominations, despite not appearing elsewhere during the awards season.
These include: Cillian Murphy (Steve), Carey Mulligan (The Ballad of Wallis Island), Harry Melling (At the back), Emily Watson (Hamnet) Robert Aramayo And Pete Mullan (I swear) and Andrea Riseborough And Brenda Blethyn (Dragonfly).
Other British actors in the competition include Sinners stars Wunmi Mosaku And Delroy Lindo — both were honored in supporting categories in last week’s Oscar nominations.
Why aren’t KPop Demon Hunters nominated?
netflixBafta’s announcement of its longlists in advance also means we already know many of the films and actors that definitely won’t be nominated on Tuesday.
Like some Hollywood stars Julia Roberts, Dwayne Johnson, George Clooney And Sydney Sweeney There were films released this year but they all missed the Bafta longlist, as did the Oscars.
Secret Agent star WagnerMoura Although it has been nominated at most other major award ceremonies, including the Oscars, it is not longlisted at the Baftas.
But perhaps the most notable omission is KPop Demon Hunters – The Netflix success of last year’s biggest viral movie hit.
It tops the animated and original song categories at the Oscars, but is ineligible for the Baftas as it opened directly on Netflix in the UK without a prior cinema release (although a singular version was later released in cinemas).
What do the Baftas tell us about the Oscar race?
Getty ImagesThe Bafta Film Awards may be a good indicator of which actors will win at this year’s Academy Awards, which take place on March 15.
Last year’s Bafta acting winners – Zoe Saldaña, Kieran Culkin, Mikey Madison and Adrien Brody – all triumphed in their respective categories at the Oscars.
In fact, 13 of the last 15 actors who won the Bafta best actor award and 10 of the last 12 actors who won the Bafta best actress award repeated their success at the Oscars.
While other ceremonies like the Golden Globes, Critics’ Choice and Actor Awards (formerly SAG) often go their own way, Bafta can sometimes be the most reliable indicator of what Oscar voters are thinking.
However, last year the best picture race was split in two; Before the Oscars chose Anora, Baftas awarded the Pope’s choice drama Conclave.
