The Uttar Pradesh Assembly on Wednesday, May 13, 2026, suspended all previously scheduled working tours of various parliamentary committees until further orders in the wake of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s austerity policy, officials said.

According to an office statement issued by the Parliament Secretariat, considering the national interest and current circumstances, all study tour programs have been suspended with immediate effect. The decision was taken on the instructions of Uttar Pradesh Assembly Speaker Satish Mahana.

“Respecting the call made by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the House has decided to suspend the working tours of parliamentary committees so that all resources and arrangements can be appropriately utilized in line with national priorities,” Mr. Mahana said.

He said that it is the responsibility of public representatives and institutions to participate in every call made in line with national interests and to show sensitivity and responsibility according to the circumstances.

Officials said the orders issued by Pradeep Kumar Dubey, Principal Secretary, Parliament Secretariat, came into force with immediate effect.

On May 10, Mr. Modi issued a national austerity appeal, urging citizens to cut fuel use, postpone gold purchases and foreign travel and even return to a work-from-home arrangement amid increasing economic pressure caused by the West Asian crisis.
