‘Balochi Dastar’ For Modi: Why Balochistan Is Honouring PM Modi With Its Highest Civilian Honour | World News

New Delhi: The government of the Republic of Balochistan in exile has announced that Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be conferred with the highest civilian honour, the Baloch Dastar, next year. The award is presented as a symbol of gratitude, unity and enduring friendship with India.
Baloch leader Mir Yar Baloch thanked India for its continuous moral support and said that this recognition reflects the strong emotional bond that the Baloch people feel with the country and its citizens.
The announcement was made by representatives of the Baloch government in exile, many of whom live in different countries due to fear of persecution. Leaders have repeatedly claimed that the Pakistani army maintains control over Balochistan through the use of force.

He elaborated on the decision, saying the award aims to “celebrate and highlight the age-old friendship, brotherhood and mutual respect with India and Indian brothers and sisters, and further expand people-to-people contact.” The civilian honor will be given to Prime Minister Modi through his representatives.
What is Baloch Dastar?
Explaining the importance of the award, Baloch said that the award has a cultural and emotional meaning. “The Baloch Dastar is not just an award, it is the highest civilian honor of Balochistan, the sacred symbol of trust, unshakable friendship and eternal brotherhood.
This traditional Baloch turban, bound with dignity and pride, is bestowed only on select individuals who stand firmly shoulder to shoulder in the pains, dreams and struggles of the Baloch nation.
He added that getting the Baloch Dastar also carries responsibility.
“The recipient of the Baloch Dastar bears the responsibility of nurturing this bond of friendship, protecting it with his heart and soul and guiding it towards its ultimate goal, which is the day when Balochistan breathes freely as a sovereign nation. Sixty million patriotic Baloch people sincerely honor the nations and friends who understand our pain and struggle. We are deeply grateful to the 1.4 billion people of India who have continuously provided moral and media support to the legitimate cause of Balochistan, helping our voice reach far and wide.” he said.
Reference to Prime Minister Modi’s 2016 Red Fort Speech
Baloch also recalled Prime Minister Modi’s Independence Day speech in 2016: “We fondly remember the moment when Prime Minister Modi spoke with courage and warmth about the people of Balochistan at the Red Fort on 15 August 2016. That moment touched our hearts. Honoring the Indian prime minister with the Balochistan Dastar, despite the fact that India has not provided any official or material support to our state so far, was his speech through the Indian media.” “It recognizes its role in highlighting the challenges of Balochistan,” he said.
Hope for a New Phase in India-Balochistan Relations
Looking ahead, the Baloch leader expressed hope that 2026 will usher in a new chapter in relations.
“We hope that 2026 will bring a new direction to Balochistan-India relations, allowing leaders on both sides to cooperate for peace, progress, prosperity and security in the region and explore better paths in diplomacy, politics, economy, defense and culture.” he said.

This is seen as a sign of India’s growing acceptance and respect in the Muslim world.
The Role of the Baloch Community in Oman
Baloch also emphasized the role of the Baloch community living in Oman.
“The main basis for this heartfelt respect is the vibrant Baloch community residing in Oman, who have lived there for centuries and hold influential positions in the government, civilian roles, military, bureaucracy and key decision-making institutions. They regard Prime Minister Modi as a true friend of both Balochistan and Oman, have great respect for him and extend their best wishes for his health and long life.”
