Wilmington Tunnel Collapse: Dozens Trapped As LAFD Launches Massive Rescue Operation | VIDEO | World News

A large tunnel collapse in Wilmington, a suburb of Los Angeles, imprisoned dozens of workers underground and launched a major emergency intervention. The incident was close to the intersection of W. Lomita Boulevard and S. Figueroa Street.

The first reports from the Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD) showed that 15 tunnel workers were trapped. However, later reports from CBS Los Angeles suggest that the number may be as high as 28. No injury has been confirmed so far.
“Up to 15 tunnel employees were initially isolated with a collapse in an industrial tunnel.” He said. He announced that the incident took place about six miles south of the response address, which is the only access point of the tunnel.
The first video images show significant number of emergency personnel and equipment at the scene. Lafd confirmed that more than 100 interventions were on the field.
Emphasizing the special nature of the ongoing efforts of the department, “Lafd Urban Search and Rescue Team members, including members of more than 100 words were appointed.”
The purpose of the tunnel, the size and the causes of the collapse, the details of the rescue operations are still unknown. Lafd manages the stage and asked the media helicopters to keep a safe distance in order not to intervene in ground communication.
