ANI, citing bdnews24, reported that Sharif Omar bin Hadi stated that “the interim government cannot escape responsibility” for the murder and that he would eventually be tried for not protecting himself.

Omar bin Hadi also noted that since the murder occurred while the current administration held state power, they cannot escape responsibility and that they must be tried sooner or later, whether today or ten years later. He also accused authorities of trying to take advantage of the murder to “sabotage” the election; He promised that this movement would never succeed.

He added that Hadi insisted that the country hold elections in February and was actively preparing for this on the ground, but the purpose of the murder was to hinder the process.

This comes after Muhammad Yunus, Chief Advisor to the Bangladesh government, confirmed that the country will hold general elections on February 12.
