Bar Council Polls Peaceful, Counting Feb. 10

Hyderabad: Telangana State Bar Council elections were held peacefully across the state on Friday with no major incidents reported at polling stations. However, some candidates alleged that fake voters were present in the Ranga Reddy District Court premises.

According to Bar Council officials, approximately 75 percent of registered lawyers voted, reflecting strong participation in the election process.

In the election in which a total of 203 candidates competed, a ballot paper was so large that it could be compared to a poster. The voting process took longer than usual due to the preferential voting system, which requires voters to mark their preferences for at least five candidates and the option to elect up to 23 members. This caused delays at many voting booths.

Bar Council staff said voting went smoothly throughout the day, despite the time-consuming process. The counting of votes will begin on February 10, and officials noted that due to the complexity of calculating preferential votes, it may take up to 20 days for the process to be completed and the final results announced.
