Barry Keoghan finally clarified how to pronounce his surname when he appeared on BBC Radio One’s Breakfast Show on Wednesday.
Greg James quizzed the 33-year-old actor on how to pronounce his last name after being told by friends and listeners that he had said it wrong.
Greg said: ‘Can I check this? Every time I say this on the radio people say “That’s not Ke-OH-gan” and I say “it is”.’
To the question of Barry, who told him that he mispronounced Keoghan, the presenter replied: ‘Everyone. I tell this to all my friends and they say, “Why do you say Ke-OH -ghan?”‘
Barry said: ‘Until a Keoghan tells you how you didn’t say that…’, then confirmed Greg was telling the truth and said: ‘Kee-gan is wrong. It looks like an infection’.

The clip of the interview was shared on TikTok, and fans took to the comments section to say that Barry was the one who said it wrong.
They wrote: ‘Barry mispronounces his own name. It was supposed to be called “Ky-sahib”. Eoghan is the Irish spelling of Owen, in which you do not pronounce the g sound.’
‘He pronounces it kee-ogan, but the vast majority of people with this surname do not pronounce it that way. This is Kyowan. ‘The name is right because it’s the name but… it’s also wrong.’
‘I know a Keoghan family and they all pronounce it like Kyo-an. The letter G is silent because no one in Gallagher apart from Oasis pronounces the letter G.’
‘The strange thing is that I can’t pronounce anyone with that name in their own way. This is very important.’
Elsewhere in the interview, Barry joked that he watches Saltburn’s nude scene every Monday.
The actor performed his entire infamous dance sequence in the black comedy thriller Sophie Ellis-Bextor’s Murder On The Dancefloor.
