Speeding ambulance crushes couple to death on Double Road

A couple was killed and several vehicles and a police station were damaged when a speeding ambulance crashed into a two-wheeler near Double Road in Wilson Garden traffic police station limits on Saturday morning, November 1, 2025. Several two-wheelers and a police station were also damaged.

The deceased were identified as 40-year-old Ismail and 33-year-old Sameena Banu. Police said the couple was traveling on a scooter when an ambulance coming from Richmond Circle at high speed rear-ended them.

The signal was red and the couple had stopped their bike after the ambulance, allegedly driven carelessly, failed to slow down and hit them. The impact was so severe that both of them were crushed under the ambulance and died at the scene.

There was no patient in the ambulance at the time of the accident, which was reported to belong to a private hospital. Despite this, it was stated that the driver was speeding excessively by sounding the siren.

After hitting the couple, the ambulance collided with three other bikes, dragging one of them for about 50 metres, before coming to a stop after crashing into the police station. It was stated that the injured were Riyan and Sıddık.

The incident triggered public outrage in the region; Angry locals overturned the ambulance to remove the vehicles and the victims were trapped under the vehicle. They claimed this was the second such incident involving an ambulance in the area and accused drivers of misusing sirens and driving recklessly even when they were not transporting patients.

Ashoknagar police took up the case of death due to negligence, rashness and careless driving of the detained driver for further investigation into the role of the ambulance driver and hospital management.
