Jammu and Kashmir LG performs ‘Pratham Puja’ to mark ceremonial start of Amarnath Yatra

Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha performed ‘Pratham Puja’ at the cave temple of Amarnath on Monday, June 29, 2026, marking the ceremonial beginning of the annual pilgrimage that started on July 3.

An official statement said that Mr. Sinha sought the divine blessings of Baba Barfani and prayed for peace, prosperity, health and prosperity of all.

He also invited Baba Barfani’s disciples to participate in numerous pilgrimages and experience the spiritual journey.

Mr. Sinha said that the management, Amarnath temple board, Army, police, security forces, local communities, service providers and volunteers are working in complete synergy to ensure a safe, hassle-free and memorable pilgrimage for devotees.

He said that with significantly improved infrastructure, improved facilities and invaluable support from the people, the authorities are fully prepared to welcome devotees to a spiritually fulfilling journey.

Shri Amarnath Ji Temple Board (SASB) organizes ‘Pratham Puja’ at the cave temple on Jyeshtha Purnima every year.

The 57-day Amarnath Yatra will officially begin on July 3 via two traditional routes – Pahalgam axis in Anantnag district and Baltal in Ganderbal district.

The yatra will end on Raksha Bandhan on August 28.

DGP Nalin Prabhat, Special Director General (coordination) SJM Gillani, SASB CEO Mandeep Bhandari and District Commissioner Kashmir Anshul Garg accompanied Mr. Sinha to the cave temple.
