Beast from the East to see snow at Christmas as -4C ice blast hits | Weather | News

December will continue to be a cold month for some parts of the country, as the latest weather maps show temperatures dropping to -4C in the UK. Brits have been hit by the cold, with temperatures dropping below freezing for several days in the first half of December, and freezing conditions are likely to continue, according to the latest forecast from forecaster WXCharts. Their maps show nail-biting temperatures across the country on Christmas Day, with snow likely falling in one area.

On 25 December, most parts of Scotland, England, Wales and Northern Ireland are likely to see temperatures at or below zero; Higher temperatures of around 2C will be felt in the South East of England, including areas such as London, Kent, Suffolk and Norfolk. WXCharts shows exactly when temperatures will drop to their lowest and where snow could fall across the country on Christmas Day and Boxing Day.

WXChart’s latest map shows below-freezing temperatures from southern Wales to English counties such as Warwickshire and Gloucestershire.

Conditions get colder further north, with temperatures dropping to around -2C by midday on Christmas Day across much of northern England, including major cities such as Manchester and Liverpool.

Scotland will, as always, be the coldest part of the UK; Temperatures are expected to range between -2C and -4C in the counties of Perthshire, Aberdeenshire and Inverness-shire.

The weather front may bring back memories of the famous Beast from the East in 2018, when an air mass from Siberia caused unusually heavy snowfall and bitterly cold weather, dropping as low as -14C in some areas.

The Met Office also said there was a low chance of permanent snowfall across much of the country over Christmas due to recent rises in temperatures.

In a video released via the Met Office’s YouTube channel on Tuesday, meteorologist Aiden McGivern said: “There are some subtle hints at the moment that calmer weather, or at least less unstable weather, will develop in that week of Christmas. So there’s no sign of cold weather or snow.”

“It’s mostly low pressures with rain and wind… There is a promise that there will be less unrest towards the end of the year.”
