Beau Biden should have been president, heartbroken father Joe says as concerns for his health mount

Joe Biden surprisingly admitted that his son Beau should have been president instead, as concerns about the former commander-in-chief’s health grow.
The 82-year-old former president slammed the Trump administration for “cutting government funding for cancer research” after making it a “priority” in his speech at the Nebraska Democratic Party’s Ben Nelson Gala on Friday.
‘Cancer hits every family. “This hit my family hard,” Biden told the crowd.
‘When the love of my life, my oldest son, the attorney general of the state of Delaware – he should have been president, not me – volunteered to go to Iraq for a year, there was no need, he came back with stage four glioblastoma because he was living and dying in the burn pit, just like those men did on 9/11.’
Biden later described how his eldest son begged him from his hospital room to stay in politics; It’s a moment the former president has talked about in the past, forming the title of his memoir.
“He said, ‘Dad, look at me. Look at me I know what you will do, dad. When I leave, you will resign. You won’t want to get engaged. But look at me, dad. As a Biden, promise me you will stay involved. Promise me, ‘And I did,’ Biden recounted.
His son Beau died of brain cancer in 2015 at the age of 46.
He worked as a federal prosecutor before being elected Delaware attorney general in 2006 and was re-elected to a second term in 2010.

Beau joined the military in 2003 as a member of the Delaware Army National Guard and as a major in the Judge Advocate General (JAG) unit.
In 2008, his unit deployed to Iraq and Beau served on active duty overseas until September 2009.
Announcing his death in a statement, Joe said that his son, whom he described as ‘the best man he knew’, dealt with this situation ‘with the honesty, courage and strength he showed every day of his life’.
‘Beyond his professional accomplishments, Beau valued himself as a husband, father, son and brother,’ the then-vice president said.
‘His absolute dignity made him a role model for our family. Beau embodied my father’s saying that a parent recognizes success when his child turns out to be better than him.
‘In the words of the Biden family: Beau Biden was, simply, the best man any of us have ever known.’
Biden, who was diagnosed with advanced prostate cancer in May, is currently facing his own health battle with cancer.
He has since been seen appearing in public with a large bandage on his head in August, following Mohs surgery to determine how deep the skin cancer has spread.
The 46th president was seen wearing another bandage as he spoke in Omaha on Friday, describing his experiences with cancer treatment and the importance of researching the disease.

‘When you take the research that they did, when they make the diagnosis – in my case, I just had prostate cancer – when you finish that round of treatment, you get to ring that bell at the end of each treatment.
‘Thank God for doctors, nurses, and the incredible breakthroughs we’ve made in cancer research. Now Trump and his fellow Republicans are making healthcare more expensive by cutting government funding for healthcare.’
The former president then went on to take further jabs at the Trump administration, getting particularly angry when discussing the record-long government shutdown, now in its 40th day.
He said Trump “better open up the damn government” and accused Trump of “intentionally making hunger worse for Americans,” citing a lack of funding for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP).
‘One in every five children in the United States, one in every five children, goes to bed hungry every night!’ Biden claimed.

Republicans accused Democrats of keeping the government shut down because nearly every Republican senator voted in favor of the proposed spending plan.
But a breakthrough appeared on the horizon Sunday night as Democrats joined with their Republican rivals to reach a tentative deal to end the chaos. The agreement reportedly includes a clause guaranteeing that federal employees laid off during the shutdown will be reinstated to their jobs, as well as an assurance that such measures will not be implemented in the future.
It also reportedly provides food stamp funding through the end of fiscal year 2026. The measure must receive a formal vote in the Senate before returning to the House of Representatives and eventually to Trump’s desk for signature.
When he returned to the White House on Sunday, he told reporters: ‘It looks like we’re getting closer to the end of the shutdown.’
‘We will never agree to give significant amounts of money, or any money, to illegal individuals coming into this country, and I think the Democrats understand that.’
