Limp Bizkit bassist and founding member dies
Sam Rivers, bassist of the popular nu-metal band Limp Bizkit, died at the age of 48, according to the statement shared by his bandmates.
The group announced the news via social media on Sunday, honoring Rivers as the “true legend of legends.” No cause of death was stated.

“Today we lost our brother. Our bandmate. Our heartbeat,” the band’s remaining members Fred Durst, Wes Borland, John Otto and Leor Dimant (aka DJ Lethal) wrote. instagram. “Sam Rivers wasn’t just our bass player; he was pure magic. The pulse beneath every song, the calm in the chaos, the soul in the sound.”

Dimant also commented below the band’s statement, stating how heartbroken and shocked the band was and asking fans to “respect the family’s privacy at this time.”
Rivers was one of the founding members of Limp Bizkit, known for hits such as. Breaking Things And My Generation. The band was formed in 1994 and became one of the most influential musical groups of the 90s and early 2000s. The band last performed in Australia as part of the Good Things Festival in December 2023.
The band went on hiatus between 2006 and 2009; During this period, Rivers worked as a producer with other bands such as Burn Season and the Embraced. Rivers left the band in 2015 due to health issues, which he later revealed were due to liver problems resulting from alcohol addiction. He reunited with Limp Bizkit in 2018 and continued to perform with the group until his death.
