Belagavi City Police Announce Traffic Regulations To Ease Congestion And Improve Road Safety

Belagavi: In order to ease traffic congestion, improve road safety and ensure smooth movement of vehicles within the city, Belagavi City Police has issued various traffic regulations. These include directing private buses to operate only from designated pick-up and drop-off points, restricting the entry of heavy vehicles during peak hours, marking key areas in the City as no-parking zones, as well as regulating roadside parking on an odd-even basis on certain roads.
The police department addressed congestion caused by private buses picking up and dropping off passengers at busy intersections, especially in the evening hours. Areas like Sangolli Rayanna (RTO) Circle, Triveni Hotel, Ramdev Hotel and Dharmaveer Sambhaji Circle were identified as prone to congestion due to indiscriminate stopping of private buses.
City Police Commissioner Bhushan Gulabrao Borase stated that after a meeting with stakeholders, the police have reserved three special areas for special bus pick-up and drop operations: Bharatesh School (Toll and Parking area), vacant land behind Belagavi Tek Center in Ashok Nagar (Toll and Parking area) and the area from Dharmanath Circle to Ashok Nagar Road.
From January 27, 2026, all private bus operators will have to use only these designated locations to pick up and drop off passengers.
According to the police, private bus owners and drivers have been instructed to strictly comply with the instructions, failing which legal action will be taken under the Motor Vehicles Act. Police attempted to cooperate with bus operators to ensure smoother traffic flow and public safety.
Vehicle traffic in Belagavi city has increased significantly in recent times, especially in the morning and evening hours when school and college students, parents and office workers travel. It has been reported that the movement of heavy vehicles during these hours causes accidents.
Considering public safety, the movement of heavy vehicles within the city limits is restricted from 7 to 11 am and from 15:00 to 20:00.
Meanwhile, parking of vehicles on both sides of the road has been completely banned in two major areas within Belagavi city limits – from Triveni Hotel to CBS (Central Bus Stand) Circle and from Keerthi Hotel Cross to Sangolli Rayanna (RTO) Circle.
